Lately, we’ve been getting loads of anxious inquiries from patients about reducing pore size. Skin pores play a vital role in maintaining overall skin appearance and texture. But the fact is that the skin pores tend to expand with increasing age, which is a natural process that everyone goes through.

One of the biggest facts is that the skin cannot function healthily without pores. Skin pores play an important role in maintaining skin and body healthy and helping everyone get remarkable skin by controlling the pH balance.

WHAT ARE OPEN PORES?

Pores are tiny openings on the skin, which allow helps the skin to breathe. Each pore contains a hair follicle and sebaceous glands (that helps in sebum production). Looking close enough, one can see the hair follicle pores with their naked eyes. These glands produce sebum that keeps skin hydrated and moist, no matter whether one has oily skin dry skin. The nose is a key area where most people notice enlarged or clogged pores. When the pores on the skin are tight, it can cause more light reflection, thus making it appear more smooth, brighter, youthful, and healthy. The oil produced by the skin can become trapped inside the pores, further oxidizes with the oxygen, and make the skin look darker and rough.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OPEN PORES?

  • O-SHAPED PORES: These are mostly observed in the T-zone area. They are round in shape, and if one has acne-prone or oily skin, these types of large pores tend to appear.
  • U-SHAPED PORES: Dry skin is the major cause for developing U-shaped types of pores.
  • Y-SHAPED PORES: With increasing age, collagen production in the skin reduces. This can give the pores the shape of a water drop or the shape of the alphabet Y. They tend to appear mostly on the cheek area.

FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR FORMING LARGE OPEN PORES:

  • High levels of sebum production
  • Loss of skin elasticity around pores
  • Thick hair follicles
  • Genetics or heredity factors
  • Loss of collagen and elastin production in skin due to aging
